Multi-day Adventure Microwedding in Olympic National Park
When I first spoke with Vawn & Steven, we immediately connected over our shared love of nature. It was important for them to have the beauty of the landscape captured prominently in their adventure microwedding experience in Olympic National Park.
They envisioned their microwedding as a combination of an intimate ceremony and celebration with their closest friends, and then exploring a variety of gorgeous locations around Olympic National Park the following day. As an elopement photographer, I love helping couples plan much of their elopement experience. Every detail of Vawn and Steven’s microwedding was created with intention, making it unique and meaningful to them.
March can be a very rainy or even snowy month in the Pacific Northwest, but the Olympic Peninsula is typically one of the more temperate areas in Washington. A few days before their elopement, the weather forecast turned to sunshine and warmer temperatures. I’ve never seen a more beautiful day in the winter at Hurricane Ridge.
Beautiful Winter Adventure Microwedding Celebration at Hurricane Ridge
The couple reserved a location on Lake Sutherland with 2 cabins for them and their guests. Lake Sutherland is such a peaceful area, near both Lake Crescent and Hurricane Ridge, and has some of the cutest lake homes in all of Washington.
Vawn and Steven began their first day by getting ready for their ceremony with the help of their friends and then making the drive up to Hurricane Ridge. Since it was a clear day, the views were spectacular along the drive.
They stood in a snowy meadow surrounded by their best friends and the snow-covered Olympic mountains. It was a very meaningful ceremony performed by Pastor Doug, one of their closest friends.
After exchanging their emotional vows, a bald eagle flew over – symbolizing love, strength, and friendship. They took some time to celebrate with a champagne toast and a snowball “fight”. There was lots of laughter. They felt like kids again. Then, we all went on a snowshoe hike to take in the incredible views in every direction. It was such a clear day that we could even see Mount Baker and the Enchantments while on our hike around Hurricane Ridge.
We then returned to their cabin on Lake Sutherland. Everyone gathered around the fire pit with their favorite wine and shared stories about the couple’s relationship and discussed future adventures.
The couple and I enjoyed a gorgeous sunset from the dock while their friends made them a delicious dinner. It was such a special way to end the first day of their adventure microwedding in Olympic National Park.
Microwedding Adventures around the Olympic Peninsula
The next morning, the couple, and I got up very early so we could be at Kalaloch beach for Sunrise. The sky looked like layers of pink and purple sherbet, and the sun illuminated the waves in the ocean. We got the enjoy the golden light from the sunrise stream through the Tree of Life.
Our next adventure was at Merriman Falls near Lake Quinault. The waterfall was gushing at that time of year! The landscape was so green and lush. The trillium flowers were starting to bloom, and the birds were singing. The bride looked like a fairy princess amongst the moss-covered rocks and large ferns.
The couple took a break to check into their room at Lake Quinault Lodge and enjoy a relaxing lunch and nap to recharge for the evening’s activities. I encourage couples to take a little time to relax when they have multi-day adventure elopements, because you want to be able to enjoy every minute of your elopement experience.
I couldn’t think of a better way to conclude their 2-day adventure microwedding in Olympic National Park than by visiting Ruby Beach. A few hours before sunset, we met back up at Ruby Beach where Vawn & Steven shared one of their favorite meals (prepared by their best friends) as a picnic and savored a glass of red wine while watching the sunset. Vawn read a message written by her son. We all got misty eyed over his thoughtful wishes.
We had most of Ruby beach to ourselves and enjoyed exploring amongst the sea stacks, including taking photos with lanterns at blue hour. Shortly after it got dark, the International Space Station streaked across the sky. What an extra special treat! We talked about Space and the Moon and Mars, while we did some stargazing before bidding farewell.
Meaningful Microwedding Experiences
Vawn and Steven shared their love for each other in the presence of breathtaking landscape and with some of their closest loved ones. It was the perfect celebration for them.
I am always honored to capture all the elements of your love story as your Washington Elopement Photographer. But selfishly, the most important thing to me is to gain two new friends.
